About the Guru:Â
Roshani's journey in dance began at the tender age of 3 under the guidance of her mother, who herself is a Bharatanatyam dancer. Starting with Bharatanatyam, she trained under her mother and later under renowned gurus before finding her true calling in Kathak at the age of 14.Â
Under the mentorship of esteemed guru, Sweekruth BP, she has honed her skills to become a passionate Kathak dancer, performer, and teacher. Her performances have graced various prestigious stages across India, including corporate shows, dance festivals, and temple celebrations. Currently, she also serves as an examiner for Kathak junior exams at BTA Academy, Bangalore.
This is a 3-month foundational Kathak course with 3 classes per week. This is what you will be learning:
1. Understanding Teen Taal
Introduction to the 16-beat cycle (Teen Taal).
LehraÂ
Exploring its rhythmic patterns at three speeds (barabar, dugun, and chaugun).
2. Footwork Patterns
Master fundamental Kathak footwork and rhythmic variations.
Build speed, accuracy, and synchronization.
3. Hastaks (Hand Gestures)
Learn expressive hand movements for storytelling.
Coordinate hastaks with precise footwork.
4. Thihaai and tukdas
Learn short rhythmic compositions and their significance in Kathak.
5. Kavita
Small poetic compositions (slokas) dedicated to various Gods.
6. Chakkars
Techniques and Exercises:
Focus on posture, spotting, and core strength for perfect spins.
Build stamina and speed while maintaining grace.
Overcome dizziness and enhance fluidity with specialized drills.
